The debut will take place on the Tokyo - London route. On this flight, All Nippon Airways ANA's Boeing 777-300 ER with a renewed cabin will take off for the first time on August 2nd. The highlights are the First Class, called The Suite, as well as the Business Class, called The Room. The airline has developed the new concept over the past five years with Japanese architect Kengo Kuma and British design firm Acumen.

ANA describes the new product as «inspired by Japanese heritage and Western design principles». The First Class is based on Japanese luxury hotels, the Business Class on modern living spaces. In both classes, the mini-suites are lockable and equipped with 43-inch 4K monitors. 4K stands for a resolution that is four times higher than that of a Full HD display. According to ANA, this is the first time such monitors are being used in passenger aircraft.

Self-service with drinks and snacks

Kengo Kuma uses imitations of rosewood as well as light and dark Japanese ash, which are widely used in modern Japanese homes. He wants to create a home away from home feeling, says the architect. In both classes, lamps designed by Panasonic especially for ANA will provide lighting that imitates natural light such as sunrise.

The entrance area of the cabin has also been redesigned to resemble that of a hotel reception. In addition, there is now a self-service bar with drinks and snacks. In Economy and Premium Economy, seats feature  Japanese patterns. These were also recently introduced in the Boeing 787-10 of All Nippon Airways.

Nine abreast disappears from Economy

ANA will gradually introduce the new cabin in twelve of its Boeing 777-300ER. The airline is discontinuing the nine-seater row (2-4-3) in Economy Class, which is currently still installed in some of the airline's 777-300ER. The new cabin in Economy Class has ten seats per row (3-4-3), as is the case with numerous other airlines. After the conversion, the aircraft will have eight seats in First Class, 64 in Business Class, 24 in Premium Economy and 116 in Economy.
