The Covid 19 pandemic was not yet known at the time. On February, 11, the owners of Air Italy decided to liquidate the company. Two weeks later the last flight took place. The second largest Italian airline disappeared.

The airline was founded in 1963 as Alisarda and later flew as Air Italy and Meridiana, until 2017 when Qatar Airways took a 49 percent stake and changed its name again. Especially in Sardinia, where Air Italy had its origin and its headquarters, people still miss the airline today. But as a member of the island's regional parliament explains, there are plans for a rebirth.

First flights from and to Sardinia

«According to what I have learned from absolutely reliable sources, in the last few months several highly qualified professionals have been working on a business plan aimed at the birth of a new airline», regional newspaper L'Union Sarda quotes Roberto Li Gioi.

The politician added that this was a finished project in the drawer. Now investors still have to be found for it. Air Italy 3.0 will first offer flights to and from Sardinia and later national and international connections.
