Air Baltic has had to cancel more and more flights in recent weeks because fewer and fewer people want to fly. Now the coronavirus epidemic has forced the Latvian national airline to ground all of its aircraft. On Tuesday (March, 17) the carrier will stop all its flights – not only at its hub in Riga, but also in Tallinn and Vilnius, Air Baltic announced on Saturday evening.

The Latvian government declared a state of emergency on Saturday (14 March). A whole package of measures includes the halt of all air traffic. Bus and train connections have also been suspended. For the time being, the measures apply until 14 April. Until then, Air Baltic's aircraft will also remain on the ground.

Same thing with LOT

On Sunday (March 15) Poland will be sealed off. The borders will be closed - except for the movement of goods. Initially the measure will apply for ten days, but the government in Warsaw declared that it could be extended.

After Polish national airline had first announced in the afternoon that it was discontinuing all international flights from Poland and Hungary, in the evening, it stated that all flights would be stopped. Most of the domestic flights are used as feeder flights.
