Lufthansa, Air France, Qantas and Korean Air have already done so, Asiana is only operating two aircraft. In times of the Corona crisis, more and more Airbus A380s are being decommissioned. Low load factors make the superjumbos unprofitable. Even before the outbreak of the lung disease, the biplane was considered difficult to fill.
Emirates is now also considering decommissioning its entire A380 fleet. This is reported by the news agency Bloomberg with reference to internal sources. The difference to other operators: Emirates currently operates 115 aircraft. Second largest user Singapore Airlines operates 19 superjumbos.
Emirates negotiates future deliveries
There is no comment from Emirates so far. With 155 Boeing 777-300 ERs, the airline would cut a significant part of its capacity. Last week, the airline already decommissioned 20 of its A380s. The airline is also negotiating with Airbus to postpone delivery of the eight remaining aircraft.
Emirates focuses on transit traffic between Europe and Asia from its hub in Dubai. The entry ban of the European Union, which came into force on Wednesday (17 February), has hit the golf airline hard once again.
