Matteo Bonecchi has already made two attempts to launch a new airline in Italy. But the projects Koine Airways and 24 Airways never took off. Now he wants to launch Ego Airways.

Not much is known about the airline yet. They want to offer passengers «a new travel experience», they promise in job advertisements. The aviation website Italia Vola reported last year that Ego Airways is planning feeder flights from Italian cities to Milan Malpensa airport. Ancona, Venice and Trieste were mentioned.

No AOC yet, but an aircraft

At that time, Embraer E145 was mentioned as the preferred aircraft, in the meantime E170 and E190 are mentioned. However, Ego Airways does not yet hold an Air Operator Certificate (AOC). Nevertheless, an Embraer E190 in the colours of the new airline was recently spotted at Maastricht/Aachen Airport.

The interesting thing about it is that it still bears a German registration number, D-AZFB. In the future, it will fly as I-EGOA. Ego Airways has leased the Embraer E190 from the German WDL Aviation, which flies under the German Airways brand. This is confirmed to aeroTELEGRAPH by sources close to the company.

Major customer lost

WDL has recently suffered a serious setback. Actually, five of their Embraer E190s were permanently leased to Braathens. But the Swedish regional airline suspended operations in April, at least temporarily.

LGW, on the other hand, which also operates under the umbrella of German Airways, went under in the Corona crisis and was liquidated.
