On July 20th, a majority of German Ryanair pilots voted against a crisis collective agreement negotiated by the union Vereinigung Cockpit. That same evening, the Irish airline threatened mass layoffs and the closure of bases. The next day it became specific.

Ryanair announced that it would close its base in Frankfurt Hahn and possibly also the bases in Weeze and Berlin-Tegel. For Frankfurt, Berlin-Schönefeld and Cologne, the airline is planning layoffs. On Monday (July, 27), the pilots uniongave in and agreed to the negotiated contract including salary cuts until 2024.

Ryanair negotiates with Verdi and airports

The trade unionists explained that they were counting on the fact that all pilot jobs in Germany would now be maintained. But the threatened bases are not yet saved after the pilots have given in, Ryanair explains to aeroTELEGRAPH.

A spokeswoman for the low-cost airline says that they are «still in negotiations with the Verdi union for cabin crews and with German airports to determine cost reductions». A decision on the allocation of aircraft to German bases for the winter of 2020 will be made shortly.
