Swiss celebrated the grand opening last November. Since then, the new Alpine Lounge in Terminal A at Zurich Airport has offered the charm of a cabin in the alps and seasonal Swiss cuisine on 500 square metres. But now the airline had to close its quaintest waiting area for frequent flyers.

A spokesman for Swiss confirms aeroTELEGRAPH, that the Swiss Alpine Lounge will remain closed from Wednesday (March, 11) until the end of April. The reason for this is the lower number of passengers due to the coronavirus crisis. The number of business travelers has declined sharply because many companies are no longer allowing their employees to travel for the time being.

Geneva also affected

Lufthansa and all its subsidiaries - including Swiss - had to cancel up to 50 percent of their flights. Dozens of aircraft are currently no longer needed. But the airlines also need to make cost cuts in other areas. Among other things, positions are no longer being filled and staff have been asked to take unpaid leave.

At Swiss, the closure of the Alpine Lounge is not all. The Lufthansa subsidiary is also closing its waiting rooms at Gates D in Zurich. The Senator Lounge in the intercontinental area of Dock E will now close at 1.30 pm, while the Business Class Lounge Center in Dock A will close at 7 pm. In Geneva, the First Class Lounge will close from 15 March, according to the Swiss spokesman.
