Accident at Istanbul-Sabiha Gökçen Airport: A Boeing 737-800of Pegasus Airlines veered off the runway early Wednesday evening (February 5th) after landing. Pictures from the scene of the accident show that the fuselage of the aircraft with the registration TC-IZK is broken in several places.

The Boeing 737 arrived as flight PC2193 from Izmir. According to Istanbul's governor 177 passengers and six crew members were on board the plane. he also said that there have been scores of injured people who are being treated in hospitals. Three fatalities are reported.

Collision with wall

According to the Aviation Herald, which specializes in aviation incidents, the plane of Pegasus Airlines touched down about 1000 meters before the end of the runway only or 1950 past the landing threshold. It overshot the runway by about 200 metres and then apparently collided with a wall that closes off the airport grounds towards a road.

According to the report, the airport fire department had to extinguish one of the engines that had caught fire. Air traffic at Sabiha Gökçen Airport was suspended after the accident.

Several landing incidents

Pegasus Airlines had already suffered an incident at the same airport on 7 January. At that time a Boeing 737 went off the runway and got stuck in the grass.

However, the low-cost airline recorded a far more serious landing accident in Trabzon in 2018. At that time, a Boeing 737 also veered off the runway. It then slid down a slope into the sea. No one was injured in either accident.
