First look at the new Premium Economy seat of Lufthansa

First look at the new design: Lufthansa shows, what the redesigned premium economy seat will look like. Swiss is set to get the same seat and offer a Premium Economy for the first time.

In view of the radical changes announced by the Lufthansa Group on Monday (24th June), it is almost a matter of minor importance. But it is one that will affect passengers directly. At the Capital Markets Day Lufthansa presented its new Premium Economy seat for the first time, which will be introduced at Lufthansa next year and at subsidiary Swiss from 2021.

The new seat will sport a shell that provides more privacy. It also has a large entertainment screen. It is ten percent wider than an economy seat and allows for a 25 percent better seat recline.

First Lufthansa, then Swiss

Lufthansa is installing the new seat in their Boeing 777X. The German airline is the second operator of the new Boeing long-haul model after Emirates. If everything goes according to plan, the first aircraft is scheduled to arrive in Frankfurt in the third quarter of 2020.

Swiss passengers will have to wait a little longer. The new seats will feature the Swiss design and are scheduled to take off for the first time in the first quarter of 2021. Swiss will start offering them on flights with the Boeing 777-300 ER. In the second quarter, it will also be available on the Airbus A340s.
